Zimbabwe take handy lead
Depleted Zimbabwe have secured an excellent
3-1 first leg lead over Angola following their 2013 Africa Cup of Nations
qualifier in Harare on Sunday afternoon.
The Warriors, already without a number of
their top names due to the Asiagate scandal, were also missing leading striker Knowledge
Musona and midfield kingpin Thinashe Nengomasha, who were refused travel by
their clubs after ZIFA put in their request too late.
But despite this, the side raced into a 3-0
halftime lead thanks to an own goal from Angolan star Bastos, and further
strikes from Ajax Cape Town star Khama Billiat and former Ajax midfielder
Archford Gutu, who now plays in Sweden.
Ironically, Angola were not playing that
badly, but Zimbabwe were clinical in front of goal and took what chances came
their way.
The Palancas Negras managed to get a goal in
the second period through substitute Djalma and that could vital in the return
leg in Angola next month.
