Tunisia through as Leone Stars dream ends

A goalless draw in Tunisia saw Sierra Leone’s dream of reaching the 2013 African Cup of Nations come to an end on Saturday night.

The 0-0 draw means Tunisia progress to the continental showpiece in South Africa next year on the away goals rule after the aggregate score finished 2-2.

The Leone Stars were made to pay dearly for their poor defence in the first leg match last month in Freetown where they conceded the two goals that would inevitably see them ousted from the Afcon.

Still, they were determined to put up a fight and defy the odds by beating Tunisia in their own back-yard.

But it was not to be and matters were made even more difficult for Sierra Leone when they saw Djibril Sanko sent from the field for a bad tackle on Tunisia's Hamdi Harbaoui. The red card was fully deserved.

With the Leone Stars reduced to ten men they never really looked like scoring any goals while Tunisia never showed any signs of attacking prowess.

To be honest the game was one to be forgotten as we saw very little action in front of goal. In fact, the only time the match sprung to life was when we saw the red card.

Besides from that there was nothing to speak of as Tunisia defended in their numbers, making sure the two goals they scored in Freetown would see them through to the Afcon next year.

Calm down, Med Mans. It wasn't so bad. And that red card was fully deserved. Ultimately we failed by not doing our home work...in other words endeavour to win our home games, particularly against the so-called favourite teams. Tunisia were poor; they would be very lucky to survive the group stages in South Africa next year.

African Soccer is far from its ultimate best especially when match conductors like REFEREES are still biased in their decisions. The game between Sierra Leone and Tunisia is just a shame that the referee is absolutely biased to Leone Stars for giving a foolish red card to Gibril Sankoh (not Djibril Sanko), disallowed a goal that would have sailed Leone Stars to the Nations Cup, disrupt the rythem of the game just when any Tunisia players go down unecessarily. Cards where giving to Leone Stars players unceremoniuosly while the Tunisia where set free doing what ever they want. I believe the Referee and his assistant where BRIBED to conduct such an unfair match that defiles the ethics of fair play. We will complain to FIFA to take a close look at the officiating aspect of this match and bring justice to the forefold. It is a mess that Tunisia of all is still part of the past..that's why they can't do nothing internationally. They will qualify by HOOK or CROOK or by all means necessary even when their integrity is at stake. It is a shame!!!
