Mali annihilate Botswana
Goitseone Kusane of Botswana
The result was all in favour of Mali when they arrived in Lobatse with a 3-0 lead putting them in the driving seat for next year’s tournament.
Mali’s lead left them with little urgency to go out in all attack and the game got off to a rather subdued start.
Nonetheless, a minute just before the half hour mark, the deadlock was broken when the visitors found the back of the net to put the result almost beyond a doubt with the overall scores sitting at 4-0.
The confidence was at an all-time low for Botswana as they fell behind by a further goal in the 57th minute to make the match scoreline 2-0, with Modibo Maiga getting his name on the score sheet.
Botswana nearly secured a consolation goal when they hit the upright but a minute later the ball found the back of the net for Mali, in the 72nd minute, to make the overall scoreline embarrassing.
If it wasn’t bad for the home side the scoreline turned into a 4-0 hammering with eight minutes to be played.
A bit of pride was spared for the Zebras when one effort crossed the line in the 87th minute, but it was all too late for them when they fell to a 7-1 aggregate loss.
