A star defender in France’s Ligue 1 for several seasons now, Marseille’s Souleymane Diawara is one of the best central defenders to have come out of Africa in recent years. 

The Dakar-born player, who is a regular for the Senegal national team and should be a key player for them at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations finals, has two Ligue 1 titles to his name (one with Bordeaux, one with Marseille) along with several other honours. 

He started his career at Le Havre, moved on to Sochaux in 2003, had a brief spell with Charlton Athletic in 2006/07, but soon returned to France with Bordeaux. In 2009 he transferred to Marseille for 7million Euros.
